Week 1: March 30-April 3

Hi,
Honestly, I've been thinking of the easiest way to get you work.  I will keep hard copies of notebooks, drawings, whatever is required.  I'll take photos and post daily or weekly of their work and what they are doing.  I will (once a week) upload a file that is the homework checklist with the things checked off (or comments about what we didn't do...if that's the case).  Blogger works with my phone, meaning I can upload photos directly from it.  So it's easier than emailing you pictures.  Will be kind of fun for me to look back on after as well.  And, sorry, but since I'm doing all the work anyway, you may get extra stuff in it (pics of other stuff we're doing).  Much easier for me to upload all the photos of the day than to pick and choose.  I guess it's a way to stay connected to the boys as well!

Sorry for the terrible photos.  I know you won't be able to read it all.  I also have not been picky in the writing yet...this week, I'm just trying to figure out how to make it all work with my job, to be honest.

Monday, March 30

Sorry the picture is turned--I'll get better at this!  This was his silent reading Bingo: a book about sharks

science experiment

Writing: list of "spesil" people.  I'll pay more attention to the actual writing later.  I just need to get through this week and see how it all works/feel in terms of the rhythm.

Limbo was the music lesson.  Then we researched Harry Belafonte (He came up after the Chubby Checker video.  I like him, so I went with it.  He was MLK's friend, a big civil rights activist, and Jamaican-American.)

We also had a video chat with Henry.

It snowed this morning!  What!??!

Limbo again.  Adrian improved greatly and got under 33" (which we measured!) LOL

The boys made Maui hooks and swords and had a noisy fight while I was trying to have a work zoom call

Thursday, April 2

This is rough.  Not going to lie.  I know parents everywhere are facing the challenges of "educating" their kids while doing their jobs.  I wish I had the time and energy to push them to do better, but I don't.

Morning walk--walking catch.  Our fave!

Mapping the neighborhood.

Carlos and I collaborated to make Huevos Rancheros--the boys wouldn't touch it.  They don't eat anything.

math--I have no idea how to teach this in a way an 8-year-old understands

Boys dedicated a ton of time to art videos today.  They produced some really good work (in my uneducated opinion).

This is his own "guy"--he says a mix of a few different characters he saw online.

Ummmm not sure what is going on in this drawing, but the art is good....?
We love Mr. Higgins's morning announcements!!!  What a great idea!

Friday, April 3

Today the boys saw Papa doing some electrical work...they didn't care about it that much, but I like when they see him fixing things.  They often help him...didn't want them helping with electrical, though!  At least not yet!  The light switch in my "office" (aka: the kitchen) broke and the light wouldn't shut off.  I had to go to Lowe's to get a new switch.  Lowe's was set up nicely for social distancing, but there was a young arrogant dude who got too close to me--I hate that.

Lots and lots of art again today...mostly gorillas thanks to Sebastian

Seb

Seb convinced Adrian to draw gorillas, too.

Movie night--Sebastian wanted to watch Rampage, about a gorilla with The Rock.  It's probably not appropriate--that was Papa's decision.  I didn't watch the movie.  But both boys loved the movie, though, including Adrian who was resistant at first.

They slept together in Seb's top bunk again last night...they both say they feel safe with their backs to each other.  I told them it's a weekend-only thing because I don't want them to lose their ability to sleep alone! ;-)  But the boys have become so much closer these past three weeks.  I thought it might drive them apart and make them fight even more, but it's had the opposite effect.  They still fight--don't get me wrong--and it's usually when I'm in the middle of a call.  But yesterday Seb said, "I'm just enjoying playing with Adi so much!"  I don't hear that very often.

Here is a link to the assignment document for the week:

FYI: We often call Adrian "Adi" at home, pronounced "Ahhhh-Dee".  Sebastian gave him this nickname when they were little because he couldn't say Adrian.
