Week 7 May 11-15
Monday, May 11
This weekend, a friend/colleague of mine gave us some 24" bikes. The one for Adrian, unfortunately, is still a bit too big. But Seb's fits great. He LOVES it. Luckily Adrian's old bike is still ok--we just had to raise the seat to it's highest level. And we weighed him today--71.6 lbs!! Wow! Anyway, we love to go bike riding at Stonehill or Wompatuck...hoping we can get some good riding in this summer. Adrian's "journal" entry today was to write a thank you note to my friend.
His opinion piece supposedly is going to be about why family is the most important thing in life. :-)
Playing some Roblox. :-( We did books in Epic today and he worked on Lexia. He's much more motivated now that he's in a new level. However, I don't encourage Epic...I want them to learn to read an actual book and hold it in their hands and give their eyes a rest. So sorry if it looks like we're not reading. We are. We just do 20 min with a book after lunch and I read Little House at night. So we get about 40 min daily. Reading is super important to me.
For music, we watched the video of George visiting the Sydney Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. The boys LOVED IT. My mom also got Adrian a used drum set (free!) over the weekend from someone so both boys have been messing around on it...you can't imagine...Adrian has some natural talent...Seb, well, not so much!! :-)
Tuesday, May 12
Yay!
They watched someone read the book "Pigcasso and Mootisse" for art.
I took this pic during silent reading LOL ;-)
Wednesday, 5/13
Here is Adrian's Screencastify video of the opinion/fact poem:

For the writing, to be honest, I've had to be a scribe to get it done. I figured that for this, more than actual writing, the takeaway was HOW to write one. And I knew that if he had to write too, he would lose that big picture piece. We started with him writing, and it just wasn't working. :-( This way, I wrote down his ideas as they came to him (with a little help organizing them). But he was able to focus on the structure.
Also, because I was writing, he came up with a lot of ideas.
He did the math problems all by himself today...that is huge. Maybe the meds ARE helping?!?
Thursday, 5/14
His conclusion--he wrote it all by himself. I will help him edit it later...
Lego building
Silent reading
Friday, May 15
We watched the Soupman on the Today Show and we talked about who he is, his mission, and his son. We have talked a lot about addiction before, actually, because my best friend fosters for DCF. We've had lots of opportunities to talk about things because of that and our conversations often happen on the way to karate in the car. I'm grateful for that time (I hope it comes back someday!).
We did all the social studies back in March when Mrs. Sanpietro assigned it. But I hope to do some stuff with heritage this weekend. We also have to have Adrian write his essay over and do some editing. I feel terrible that I scribed...but I think he got the idea of the lesson of how to write an opinion essay. I plan on having him write a lot over the summer under the guise of him making a YouTube channel. He can do toy reviews and game reviews...but I'll make him write his "script" first. He can practice opinion writing, descriptive writing, etc.

Here are the answers to his "Immigration Suitcase". He didn't do a great job writing because Seb had a worksheet...he didn't want to write out all the sentences when Seb didn't have to. Sigh.
